    Default Extra Stropping After Honing?

I recall reading somewhere that one should do double the usual number of stropping laps after honing. Is there any benefit to extra stropping right after coming off the hones?

I always do 100 laps after honing, but then I always do 100 laps whenever I strop. I have seen improvement in the edge resulting from stropping after honing in my testing, so I always do it. Stropping done right never does any harm. If there is a point of diminishing returns, it certainly is not 100 laps. I've done as many as 200 laps and at that point the returns are hard to evaluate. My personal opinion is that anything short of 50 laps is a waste of time.

When I finish on my naturals I don't strop at all. Because I use the grit breakdown method described in the friable grit stones thread. It leaves a very smooth edge. On a phig it works well but on grossularite it is very good. Of course take this with a decent dose of salt given my little bit of experience.

I'm liking the results I get when I strop 50 linen / 100 leather post hone. (Hone progression ends with CrOx after the 12k). Generally I'll do 20 linen / 40 leather post shave, then 20 leather preshave as a follow up.

Simply put, your question closely resembles what I do, and I like the results.

It's up to you as to if you feel the need to strop after honing. Proper stroping will not hurt your edge at all, I finish honeing and do 60 leather laps and before I test shave I do another 60 leather laps, unless there is a problem with stroping technique it can only help the edge as far as I'm concerned. YMMV.
A lot of wet shavers refuse to strop after a honing session before a test shave, wanting to know I think just what the stones are doing without any type of stroping getting in the way of that judgment.
To each his own I say, have a great weekend and a BBS shave while your all at it!!!!!!!!!!!!
