Naniwa 8k with coti slurry
friday night I was honing two blades for kwilliams a member here, and got to my naniwa 8k and was deciding how I wanted to finish the genco 5/8 full holow of his. I looked over and saw my coti bout I got from lynn a while back and got to thinking; lots of guys have said if they could put a grit rating on their coti it would be between 8k and 10k respectively, so I figured what the heck. I raised a lite slurry with the coti bout and started honing: 5 pigtails, dilute, 5 straight, dilute, 5 x strokes, dilute, 5 straight, dilute, 5 x strokes clear water, finished on naniwa 12k. It was amazing, the blade slipped through the hair with no effort, but was so smooth it was like a dull butterknife. If you have the chance, try this on your 8k sometime. I want to get the 8k snow white and give it a run with this method as well, I will post results when the stone gets here as well. Happy honing!
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.
