All i Know is that if i spend big $$$ on a razor and i CAN hone it with tape and achieve an excellent shave, then i'm going to do so rather than scratch up pretty steel! Especially with goldwashing/spine work on some fancier stuff, I think tape preserves the razor to a certain extent. That's why I use it no matter the honing i'm doing, touchup or otherwise.

I get that, I got no problem with taping, especially when honing NOS, brand new, decorated spine and so on, but an old well honed razor got a charm of it own.

I kinda think the funniest part is that the actual answer to the OP (Granted I tried to sound smarter) is the same one that answers every tape question "It doesn't matter"

@Lemur Yeah I call the charm "Hone Wear" and depending on who honed it in the past it might be rather bad for the razor

gssixgun, You don't see any charm or even value to "old and used"?

To quote that paragon of “Honesty and Credibility”, Hilarious R. Clinton…“What difference, does it make?” You can’t see it from my house.

    Do what works for you...

and… my tape, is thicker than yours.

"Old and used" is way to broad a term to just toss out there, but in broad terms I have over 10000 Posts/Vids/Illustrated guides on SRP that are specifically targeted to making Vintage razors whole and useful again.. Doing a few 1000 restores on vintage razors, Honing 1000's more has made me wish for one thing,,,

I really wish that Electrical Tape was in invented earlier, it would have kept more steel on the razors then "Charm"

(the over 7000 plus other posts are more generic and general BS)

This post was meant to be funny please take it that way, because asking me if if I don't find Charm or Value in old and used razors is pretty funny really..
