    Default Lapping

Hi how do I know if a stone is truly lapped? I'm using a DMT 325 and lapping my nanis. I'm assuming it's truly lapped when the DMT rest squarely against the stone and create suction? Or should I use a level? Let me know if this is my first time and I'm trying to hone tonight and thanks in advance!

Just draw cross hatch marks/series of Xs with a pencil on the Nanis and when the marks are gone your done.

I double checked my lapping by placing a steel rule across the stone at one end and sliding it down the stone. if you see daylignt between the stone and steel it is not flat. I did it the length of the stone as well as the width. A couple of swipes with the lapping stone in the offending area gave me a nice flat sharpening stone.

Look in the Library first & read about lapping & there is a video.

    Warning:

Naniwas tend to swell a little with water, don't get carried away with lapping, you can start chasing the swelling and waste good stone..

Make sure the Naniwa has stablized when you check the level and do the lapping

Would simply a couple of squirts of water with the squirt bottle reduce the risk of this happening? Or would I still need to let it sit a while?

What would be your recommended procedure? I'm just not sure what you mean above.

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers.
