King 1k with stand lapping question
Gents,
Just got my 1k king hone today. It's affixed to a stand which for some reason I can't remove the stand from hone.i need to lap it I'm gonna use 320 grit sandpaper my question do I just soak the hone in water with stand and all, or is there a way to take the stand off?

King 1k with stand lapping question
Leave the stand on the stone it actually comes in handy. You can soak the whole thing in water for the king you really only need a couple minutes soak time. Then you can Lap it and hone.

No need to actually soak it. Just keep the side you're lapping wet.

Thanked: 43If you try to remove the stone from its holder you could end up with a damaged stone.

+1 I've had a King Gold 1K and a King Super 1K, I don't really know the difference and hard to compare since it was years in between them.
They both had to be thoroughly soak.

Thanked: 43My King was thirsty as well. It would be extremely hard to keep it wet without a good soaking. I always kept it underwater until no more bubbles rose from it.

My mahogany colored King 1K has no base, is very thirsty, and soaks up water like a sponge. It is hard to keep it wet on the surface without a long presoak. However, this is not so for the King 6K on a stand which I give only a brief soak and could even be spray and use. Although the color of the pictured King 1K is close to the ivory color of my 6K King, the manufacturer clearly identifies the K-45 as a 1K stone.

Used mine today seems to b a lil thirsty .. Not like my norton but I think I really like this hone for the money it forces me to pratice and use an x stroke but I'm happy with it so far as long as I lapped it right.. Lapping seemed to be very quick.. Drew the grid after it was wet used 320 grit paper and within seconds the grid was gone is this possible?
