    Default Applying Chromium Oxide

So I got some of the chromium oxide paste from Hand American along with one of their bench hones and now I'm wondering what is the correct method for applying the paste to the leather. Is there a method to it like rubbing it in, letting it sit, then wiping off the excess?

I find a light dusting immediately before stropping is a good application.

I got it in the paste form, so it's not very dusty.

I guess you mean in a syringe style tube. If you do, put a hundred teeny tiny dots all over the leather and work it around evenly with your finger. Best to do a bit less than a bit too much. You can always add more tomorrow, but cleaning extra off is a . Let it dry overnight and then you're good to go.

Ah! Thanks, I am a fool and applied some, then tried to run a razor over it and the blade was really sticky going across and I immediately figured that wasn't very safe (for me or the razor). So I stopped and hopped online to ask.

I'll let it sit over night then wipe off the excess and give it go tomorrow.

I'd usually mix it with strop dressing until I'd get something that's more like a liquid than a paste. I'd distribute it evenly, maybe adding a bit more strop dressing after the fact if it's too thick, let it sit for a day, re-apply, let it sit for another day and then use.
