Thread: Help with Lacquer and gluing a Jnat

Hey everyone,

2 Questions:
1. I just got a new Jnat and have some questions. I have looked for a few hours a day since Sunday (when I bought the stone) on how to Lacquer and how to glue it to a base. If there is already a thread for this that someone knows about a link will work, but I cannot find one. Is it just like lacquering wood, wet a brush and spread? On this one I mostly don't want to mess it up. And then glueing it to a base, same thing as above. Just get a piece of wood, some gorilla glue and go at it? Do I still lacquer the bottom or just glue it?

2. It has a small crack on the top, it does not affect honing at all but I don't want it to increase in size or shift or anything. Will lacquering and glueing the bottom be fine or should I seal the crack with glue? If seal the crack anyone care to explain exactly how to do that? All my previous coticules have come without the need to do any of this so I am definitely in uncharted territory for me.

Yes I did. I used almost every variation. I read through that and it talks about doing it. But not exactly how. I'm more looking for a method than just saying "do it". I would prefer to see or have someone explain how it is done rather than give it the ol' college try.

Got Ya! Sorry I couldn't help more......

I made some wood bases for some of my Jnats the other day.
I used Teak, it won't warp and I have lots of it around.
Oiled the wood with Chinese tung oil.
Lacquered the stones with some water proof lacquer for wood, nothing special,
and finally glued the stones to the bases with silicon, then I can cut them of with a thin blade if I want to.

If glueing it to a base will help with your crack depends where the crack is.
I've glued cracks in Jnats with super glue, it works fine, the glue is fragile enough to be eaten away with the stone.
Don't use epoxi, it's usually to hard and will mess up your stone.
