Won't get sharp. Help!
Ok, tried honing this razor many times, I have a 1k king did circles 40 each side followed by ten x strokes. Then pyramid style of honing on a 4/8, the TNT seems to have the bevel set, shaves hair on arm but not that greatly. should I be doing something different with my honing due to the shape of the blade? I have walked away many times from this blade and came back to do it again. I really wanna shave this razor but have been so discouraged.. I have hone almost fifty razors and had some problems but always came back to them and tried again then got it.. This one is stumping me?? I haven't used any tape when honing this razor.. MAgic marker test after a few strokes goes away but remains on the toe. Should I put a layer of tape on it and try again?

Thanked: 13249I would get a well set bevel first, then think about restoration...
It is just a WAG because I really can't see or touch the steel but I used to always start at 400 and see what was going on with the pits

Because it has at least 3mm of hone wear, I just don't grind on them forever and a day any longer, I basically put 1 layer on for each mm of hone wear up to 3 layers.. After 3 layers IMHO it gets a bit mushy, but I know others that do go higher..
You could have honed it out for hours, or you could re-grind the entire blade also...
Here is the better question,,, Why is the hone wear that way, but when you lay it on the hone you are not sharpening the very edge
Ponder that for a bit

Just my 2 cents Bart, if the razor I'm honing does not shave arm hair easily on a 1000, I never go further till it does.
I think Glen hit it right with your razor in post # 5, the bevel was never set.
Just my thoughts.

Well hmmm good question.. Someone before me grinded on it all day.. Having same problem .. The tape I felt while honing made a difference.. Plus I learned when a razor has hone wear on it to tape..
