    Default Buying hones

Hi, I am in New Zealand and need to import hones. I want a Norton 4k/8k water stone and a 12k polishing hone. Where can I buy these in the USA? A single supplier for both stones would suit me. Advice on the 12k stone would be appreciated. Thanks for any help

    Andy

Welcome Andy, See if Garythepenman doesn't chime in. He's in NZ and I believe he recently acquired a Norton or at least made some inquiries. Good luck!

Edit: see the "hone sources" thread well.

    Hi Andy,
I'm in Australia and got my Norton from lie-nielsen. Their prices were really good and being closer to you, you might save some on the shipping.
    Cheers,
    David.

    Hi David,

I have a question for you. At the lie-nelson web site, when you look at the waterstones and click on the 4000/8000 stone you see a picture of a very blue and white combo stone. I assume this picture is only for illustration purposes only, and the actual stone is the two tone beige. Is that correct? They have always had me wondering whether lie-nelson have a different stone more suited for woodworkers and their tools.

    Thanks

    John

    Now you're testing my memory

I'm at work at the moment but thinking about it the 4000 side is white and the 8000 is a beige color.

    .....I think

They use the same picture for all of the Nortons listed - including the single grit ones.

If you're concerned, give them a shout - but I'm only aware of the beige/white one.

I regularly ship to New Zealand, Australia, Korea, and elsewhere in that part of the world. I have the Nortons but not the 12k stones. The coticule from belgium at 8k is the smoothest I use.
