oxford razor 5/8
Gents
As we speak I'm sitting behind the hones.. one 5/8 razor Oxford comp.. I keep coming back to this razor driving me nuts! Setting bevel seems set grabbing the hell out of my nail on the thumb nail test.. have no more hair to shave on my arms .. just won't shave my face after the 4/8 it shaves some hair but not all the hair... almost like skipping over random hairs. ... possible bevel not set or stick to the 4/8.. oy test I can really understand is TNT.. still not sure what tpt should feel like ??

Thanked: 1371Just put it down for now, and come back to it in a few months when you have more experience.
If it still won't go, put it away for a few more months, etc...
As you learn more skills and understand the levels of sharpness better, you'll find that eventually you can get those difficult blades going again.
If you're insistent on continuing with it, probably do more work on the bevel.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Went back to it again its grabbing the hell out of my nail its popping arm hair but its skipping over dome of my arm hair, I'm wondering if something else is wrong with this razor should I goto 4/8 will this allow the blade to get sharper or smoother.. or just send it to glen and let him tell me what I'm doing wrong by looking at it..

Molecular alignment. After a razor sits for a long period of time it's molecules, not necessarily forget what they're supposed to do, but, realign according to the magnetic and gravitational forces that have acted upon it.
It just needs to be 'woken up'. Just hone and strop it like you would your working razors and it'll remember sooner or latter.

Airportcopper,
I had a 9/16 Kropp that was like that; drove me crazy
I guess some razors are just contrary !
Have fun !
Best regards

I got it!!! Was the bevel all along hardest bevel I ever had to set so far ?? But it shaves now ... And I increased the stropping after honing seemed to do the trick..

Most people get their smoothness from a coticule/BBW or crox on a paddle strop. Diamond spray tends to make the edge sharper but harsher. If you do not have crox or a natural finisher, I would suggest a few very light (almost lifting the edge, NOT the spine!) strokes on the 8K.
