Well while on the subject, what 3m tape or tape is BEST?

The #700 or the #88 will give the best wear resistance (at least that I have found). The #700 is the one that most all of the calculations were done with..

Glen - I'm using the 700 now and the only thing I don't like is its tendency to leave an adhesive residue behind. Is the 88 any better in that regard? Thanks.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I've found the same thing man! It comes off with isopropyl but it's a PITA even with that!

I've honed on 1K with lots of different tapes and have never seen any get on the stone. That's one reason I continue to use as little pressure as I can.

I think he was talking about leaving adhesive residue on the razor once the tape was removed.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't very clear. I am talking about adhesive residue on the spine.

I have learned that at least. LITTLE to NO pressure makes for a BETTER edge!

That's absolutely correct. I think that's why, in the past, barbers used to use lather on their barbers hones. It'd give the razor just that little bit of cushion while honing thus eliminating the pressure of the razor on the abrasive.

I always just use the weight of the blade for the last part of my progression.

Take the tape off, wrap it around your fingers with the sticky side out, dab at the residue with the used tape Voila' residue all gone

I didn't find the 88 any better BTW and the Chinese brands are the worst
