I guess it or any number of other solvents would do the trick, but I like keeping solvents and my hones well apart. I especially like the idea of using the tape itself to clean up its own mess.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
