Default Help! Uneven spine on NOS Kamisori

How exactly do I go about fixing this? It is lifting at the heel when i "shift the pressure" backwards to do the stropping stroke. Thanks!

Check that your hone is dead flat to begin with!

You fix this like any other razor, make the spine even.
Try 45 degree heel forward strokes or rolling -x

How about a rolling X stroke? Then again I am not an expert.

    Recall the magic marker test.

Wipe the steel with magic marker ink that you can see easy
and then after the ink is fully dry wipe the razor on a flat fine
wide hone. That should tell you what part of the spine or back
of the razor is too high or too low (no tape).

Then perhaps a thin flat hone.

Lacking a fine hone, cardboard can be used
as it will wipe ink when it will not be hard on the
    razor.

My guess is the... heck I should not guess.

Also lay the edge and spine on something flat
to see if the steel warped.

It is possible the tape extends too far down the handle.
It is possible the blade was honed with the spine lifted (old school)
and a double patch of tape in the middle combined with the line
of the edge will let you hone it.

    Question???

Do you want to fix the razor, or hone the razor

That is the first thing to decide, you cannot "Fix" the razor using tape, you can however "Hone" the razor using tape..

Read Stefan's post again A 45° sliding stroke will overcome the problem

I was just going to say that is pretty common with kamisori's. The spines are rarely textbook perfect so what you have is a pretty routine thing.

I had to actually hone the spine down using the 45 angle. I took a good look at it with different angles and different parts of the razor on different parts of the hone. Along with a sharpie test the spine was quite elevated. I have honed it (notice correct grammar) out and it's sharpening up pretty fast now. Thanks everyone!

Is it just me, or is that a strange looking bevel?
