Need a shave-ready edge as reference
Anyone know where I can get a beater with a shave-ready edge to use as reference in my honing practice. I'm just starting out and I only have one razor other than my daily shaver. I'd like to have a razor that has a verified good edge that I can leave alone. I don't care what the conditon. Doesn't even need scales, I suppose, just something that I can compare the TPT and HHT with. Any ideas? If not, I'll just buy a vintage shave-ready, but I just spent some money on hones and don't want to spend too much.

You could pick up something in the classifieds from a reputable member, or you could send one of your razors to a reputable member in the Member Services section.

Thanked: 9If I was you and believe me there are a lot of good honemiesters on here...I would go with Glen or Lynn if they are available. The edges they produce are excellent reference points to an actual "Shave Ready" razor imho.

Good thinking there!
Not easy to know how sharp a razor really can get without trying a well honed one!Hur Svenska stålet biter kom låt oss pröfva på.

Thanked: 13245You simply need a new DE blade if all you want to do is learn the tests... KISS
A new DE blade will teach you exactly what the tests should look and feel like, get two different brands if you want to double check yourself...

Thanked: 1263Send your razor to get it properly honed or go with Glens suggestion of the DE blades...those are the best suggestions.

I didn't even think of using a DE edge. Thanks for that suggestion.
