Thanked: 2209April was a busy month....
One of our Minnesota SRP new guys, DurandKahn, came over for the second time yesterday.
He brought along his razors, strop and a DE...
I had honed his Dovo a couple weeks ago but he said his shaves were not going so well.
One again Rod Bell came over to help me and as always was very helpful to both Durand and myself.
We went over his stropping, beard prep & shaving technique. We decided that he was not keeping his strop taut enough and that he was using to much pressure while stropping, this resulted in the edge being a bit rounded. We also agreed that his shaving angle was to large. He needed to keep the spine closer to the skin.
His 3" latigo strop was also cupping a bit so he inquired about his choices for a different strop. At that point I brought out my strops and had him strop on each of them so he ould get a sense of what was available, cowhide with various finishes, horsehide, cordovan etc. We also discussed what he could do to modify/reduce the draw on his latigo.
During all of this I rehoned his Dovo using a Norton 8K, a Apart Barber hone and a blue/gray Thuringen. Rod Bell discussed with him other razor subjects, Durand kinda liked the stub tailed razors i had. Oh, and we also cleaned up & oiled his DE

Thanked: 28Very good of you to help more people get into the art =] I hope that one day that the resurgence of straight razor users will overwhelm the entire shaving world.
