    Default You're doing it wrong.

Hi I'm Bassguy, I play upright bass for a living.
Recently I've begun honing for a little extra lunch money, and a few shavers have asked about using tape, pretty spines, goldwash, etc.
I don't claim to have tried every kind of tape under the sun, but I have yet to find one commercially available in my area that doesn't leave residue on the blade. It comes off with a little bit of careful rubbing and/or goo gone eventually, but it bugs the crap out of me none the less. Takes me out of the progression just enough to be annoying, hence my strong preference against using tape, among other things.
    What am I doing wrong?

If you use the same strip of tape that you just pulled off, you can touch it(dab it) on the residue & it comes off immediately.

What Hirlau said. Works like a charm.

I actually forgot all about the touch and pull trick, I will try it on a dummy razor right now. I seem to remember that not always working...

It's always worked well for me although I wouldn't use tape or anything like that.

    I have experienced the same.
Some residue will stick to the razor regardless of tape used.
To me though, that is a small price to pay to keep the spines in good order.
What I use to remove the residue is a non-perfumed Kleenex and some rubbing alcohol.

    On a side note;
As a former electrician I have a more or less infinite supply of a whole lot of types of tape, and the variety of thickness is quite significant.
As an example, the 4 types of 3M tapes I have are all of varying thickness.
The Super 33+, Super88, Super 35 and the Termflex 1500..

Super 88 being the thickest and the Termflex being the thinnest.

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Remove tape from spine, touch it to any residue on the razor and lift it off. It's that easy. I really don't mind taping after I figured that one out.

A little off topic, however, which one have you found to have the best UV resistance?
