Default Finishing on a barber hone

Would anyone here suggest honing on the 4k, 8k and then finishing on the finer side of an old barber hone? Or should I just shave off of the 8k after stropping and touch up on the barber hone? I guess the problem is, I'm not sure of the grit on either side of the old barber hone.

Shave off the 8K. Then try the barber hone.

    Better? Worse?

Or/And provide more info on the barbers hone and there's a fair chance someone has already compared it to an 8K.

I shave off of, and touch-up on, barber hones all the time. Some barber hones are finer than others; i.e. some are finer than 8k, some aren't. You'll quickly find out which ones you like the best. The "imprint" side of a barber hone is almost always the finer side (assuming it has an "imprint" side).

the problem is "what is the grit of barber hone(or how work it)?"

As is just said, you can try to resolve your doubts.

after 8k and a godd stropping use the razor.
After use again the 8k ,then barber hone and then a good stropping.

compare this two kind of work and judge.

As Kratos said...barber hones are excellent for retouching the edge as it dulls. Thats why it only takes 5 or 6 strokes. Stropping and doing it well is so important to maintain an edge.
