Maybe after a few months of practice, you will be ready to ""PASS ON THE KNOWLEDGE". In doing so you help spread the way of the straight and give help to others as help was given to you.
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.

Great success story! You are surely well equipped with the stones you have.
Maybe using the zulu grey with water only and no slurry after the 12k naniwa would be less redundant given that the slurry would be dropping down the stone's grit?
Some members have posted that they got rid of the naniwa 12k in the equation and go from the 8k straight to the zulu grey. Others have also suggested skipping the chromium oxide stropping after the zulu and going straight to plain leather.
I personally always like to strop on chromium oxide after the finishing hone, but alas, I have not tried the zulu grey yet.
I would be interested in reading the other members thoughts on this.
There are so many permutations and combinations!

Yeah I really have to play around with things now that I am able to do things correctly. It's going to be a while before I actually can get consistent edges off of this combo. Plus I have a jnat that I need to add into the mix somewhere....some day! At least now I know that the capability is there.....

It's kind of been said but don't focus on grit ratings with naturals. The shape of the crystals alone make it a useless exercise. You will get a feel for a stone's place in a progression with experimentation & practice.
Congrats to teacher & student. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

I am glad you have some confidence! One absolutely needs that to continue. Then you have the occasional one which defies all conventions....... THATS where you really learn!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
