    Default How satisfying!

So yesterday I spent a WHILE honing a Maher & Grosh Wiry Beard that I had won on ebay. I am a noob but whoever was selling it said that the edge was "very sharp." I have butter knives that are sharper than this was. Anyway, I honed it using GSSixgun's smiling blade method and I finally got it sharp. The toe is an issue but I have another post on that. This morning I did the shave test with one pass and just kept going! It was the best shave (DE included) that I have ever had. I always get a weeper or two around my chin regardless but this morning it was the least ever (and I am 39 yrs young). I don't know if it is the wedge or the smile or the hone (probably not my honing skills LOL) but I want more of that!

My point is that taking that razor from dull to shave sharp and then using it was incredibly satisfying. I can't wait to try it again!

Special thanks to GSSixgun for the youtubes vids. They saved my butt. I couldn't do a rolling X to save my life.

That's pretty cool. I had to read your post twice. At first I thought it said "they shaved my butt", lol. TMI.

What’s funny is that I took that first test stroke and had to look at my blade to see if there were whiskers on it. It was such a clean pure pass I couldn't tell that hair was being cut. My Dovo Best Quality doesn't do that. I don't have sensitive skin but I have a terribly thick beard. I normally go an inch at a time but the test stroke went from top to bottom in one movement (thanks again GSSixgun for that demo vid on the youtubes).

.The heavier grinds are silent and deadly, I enjoy all styles of grinds, it just depends on my mood.

Congrats on a job well done, may there be many more to come for you.

And Glen's along with a few others videos have been indispensable to the cause.

I don't think they get the thanks they deserve so I second the "Thanks" to them!

Nice going. I usually look for a razor to give me a couple of weepers now and then to make sure that it is properly honed!

    Take Care,

Congratulations! The first time I honed a razor back to shaving sharp and had a great shave with it, I walked around all day with a smile on my face which is saying a lot for me. I still haven't stopped watching Lynn's, Glen's and others videos on YouTube because I constantly hear or see something else that sparks a thought and sometimes an epiphany. Thanks to them!

Yes, that's what I experienced as well. And not just that, My first honing helped building up the understanding, confidence and relationship between my razors and me.
