Yes it's important to have a hone that pretty flat, but also consider that your honing action is nowhere near as accurate as this. Also, if you cannot adjust your action to accommodate slight imperfections in the stone, you probably should pay someone else to do it.
Edit. When you find a razor that's made to the same exacting standards, you won't need to worry about the hone. The biggest problem with honing, without a doubt, is the razor not the hone.Last edited by UKRob; 05-25-2013 at 09:06 PM.

Thanks everyone! From reading here it sounds like the DMT 325 will be as flat as I need to get the job done and spending 3 times the money for the dia-flat would just be unnecessary. .

I actually have a Woodcraft store locally and went and picked up a DMT 325 this afternoon. I started on my Naniwa 12k, marker it up with grid lines, turned the water on and went to work. It took about 10 minutes to get all of the grid lines lapped off. The center grid marks went quick, but towards the edges took the most time. Once completed, I grid marked it again and it took about 1 minute to lap the grid marks off. I guess moral of my story is that the Norton lapping stone was doing and has done nothing with regards to flattening my stones for the past 6 months.
