First ebay beater honing success!!
I have been looking for a Robeson on ebay for awhile... I came across this one in ok shape but for the 15.00 I paid for it was worth the price.. It's a shur edge 1501.. Had slight hone wear on it but the scales were mint as well as the blade.. Some patina remains.. I polished it with some mass and honed her and she shaves great.. I must have spent about 45 mins on the 1k because the blade had chips and plenty of them.. I did circles, x strokes regular strokes.. I did so much work in the 1k I lost count.. Once the bevel was set, was cutting arm hair wonderfully and the TNT as well as a loupe.. I moved up the 4k until the water was running over the blade then onto the 8 k same-thing.. I did a baby pyramid from like 7 down and then hit the nainwa 12 k for about 15 strokes.. 25 scrub leather and about 85 plain leather.. When I was done I couldn't believe it I honed a ebay beater that had about everything possibly wrong with the blade..I shaved with it this morning and man it was great.. What a feeling.. Anybody who is struggling with honing all I can say is patience and pratice and the great folks at srp ... Thank you everyone here for all your help god bless..

Thanked: 0Congrats! Reminds me of when I honed my first $15 razor also. Many passes on 1 & 2K sandpaper (yup!) and then to the 3k & 8k stone. I've not got a proper strop, but it shaves wonderfully as far as I'm concerned.

Congrats, it's great to be self-sufficient isn't it?

Thanked: 39Great, congratulations!
Somehow a razor like this is more dear than an ordinary buy. You two already had some time together, maybe even hard times. That tightens a relationship
