Thread: 8k Shave?...When Was The Last Time I Did That?

I usually shave after 8k, except sometimes when I want to test a new honing stone. I've got many finishing hones (yellow belgian, escher, charnley forest, nani 12k, some jnats, ...), but after I worked long and well with the 8k I don't feel that the improvement is worth the effort. Moreover that extra wow! is not lasting more than a couple of shaves. JMO.

I just did that a week ago or so. After having trouble with my 10k and 12k stones, I returned them and the maximum available was my naniwa 8k. Before I had replacement stones, it happened that someone gave me a razor asking if I could revive it and another one made me a present of a japanese natural (I guess around the 6k level).
So I started up to 8k and as I could not go higher, I just gave it a try.
Lovely shave I got, very close, no irritation - highly surprizing.
