Got a little tired of taking metal off my De Pews with it's difficult, warped edge. So, after using a Texta (magic marker) on the edge and analysing the effect on the Norton 4/8 (and compensating for the warp accordingly) I decided to add two more layers of tape and see what happened. I did more on the 8 (using the Texta to gauge the effect) and then a bunch on the Shapton 16k. I think it worked; at least she leg hair shaving test indicated it did. I'll know more tomorrow after the morning shave.

Pesky buggers to hone and prob way more so with a warp added.

I'm off to try a fresh Sheffield wedgy blade too, I ran it through the hones once more this morning, after checking the edge yesterday, something with the steel close to the heal (had to remove some pitting close to the edge there) ... In a SOTD near you, any day now

When I get a difficult warped edge I find it easier and safer finishing on a pasted strop

Well, I tried the razor this morning and it was horrible. I'll have to give it another go. I've been trying to get this razor to an acceptable stage for ages now; I get it close, but not close enough; then try again and it goes backwards. If I don't get it soon I think I really should send it off to get honed...

I just honed an Oxford tonight that has a warp in the spine so great you can easily see it. Right towards the toe. I went the other way and honed with no tape and allowed the nani 1k to correct the warp a bit. Got it passing HHT 4 in all but the far edge of the toe. Maybe I'll clean that up tomorrow.

I Have One Like That Also. Not The Warp, Just Can't Seem To Get An Edge On It.... VERY FRUSTRATING!

I think I need to 'get in the zone' more. I think I'm using too much pressure; I do find it hard to compensate for a warp AND use no pressure; though!

I had one that would not polish in the middle. I held one finger on the spot that I identified with my loupe and made a couple strokes with pressure. Then inspect. Then do it again remembering to do regular strokes on the rest of the blade. I did this with a nani 5k SS. It gave me the feedback too. You could feel the extra drag on that part and the black marks on the stone. Slowly it polished out. Just took a long time. Even longer cause it was me doing it!
