Free honing anyone?
Hey Guys,
I have been shaving and honing with my growing collection of straights now for about 8 months. I know most of the experienced guys have been doing it for years but I seem to have gotten the hang of it pretty well now and can make all my razors shave ready. What I am wondering at this stage is, what would someone else think??
I know that over here in Ireland there is basically no one to hone razors and I would love to offer the service especially as straight razor shaving becomes more popular, but obviously I would want to be confident in my abilities before putting myself out there. So I wonder if anyone would care to have a razor honed for free? Maybe one you are not too attached to in case you are nervous lol
I got my best razor sharpened by Ralfy over at Coticule.be and I must say that it is really cool of them to offer the free honing once for each new member and he did a great job too. But I did not notice any major improvement over what I have achieved myself up to now so I guess I must be doing something right!
Anyway, if anyone would care to test drive my honing skills and provide me with any feedback it would be much appreciated, and hopefully you will get a razor that you are satisfied with, if not, then I will have learned something
Cheers
Daniel

A nice offer.
How about you hone "3" of your razors of different grinds & manufacturers & send them to one of the members here that have a honing service. Let them evaluate your razors, I think the feedback can be more beneficial to your goal.

Yeah I guess that's another way to do it! The different grinds part will be kinda hard though as most are hollow ground but one of them has a smiling edge alright. One with a different grind would be a quarter hollow sheffield. I don't have any wedges, have not found a nice one yet
I will try that though thanks for the idea, it's definitely a good way to go about it!

Thanks Martin that's also quite a good idea! I do see a couple of lads in Ireland who seem to be somewhat active so that's cool

I had a feeling someone might say that haha! I guess I just need to go get myself a wedge then and see what kind of a fight it puts up eh?

Hi Daniel, below an excerpt from the rules we all sign on to when we become members ;
"Free Honing
Due to multiple issues with "Free honing" offers in the past these rules have been placed in effect since 2009:
You cannot post a thread or a Classifieds Ad offering free honing services.
You can, however, offer help to any individual by posting in their thread. These PIF's (Pay/Pass it Forward) have been part of SRP for many years. These offers help the membership, and are allowed, and encouraged.
It will remain fully at the discretion of the Mod Team to delete any of these offers if they start to cross the "Sales and Advertising" line. Basically if you are doing it to help somebody, then that is what SRP is truly all about. If you are doing it to help yourself then that is not in the spirit of SRP and it will be deleted...
SRP accepts NO responsibility for your decisions, nor do we sponsor, or recommend any Services/Individuals that are offered."
