    Default Takehana Kummel

I just bought a Takehana Kummel on EBay. Hopefully I just didn't waste $25. Is Shigehisa Takehana (a director of Japan Swordsmith Society) the owner of Takehana & Co., the maker of this blade?

I would very very seriously doubt that swordsmith Shigehisa Takehana owned a razor company. Looking at that blade, it says "Imported from Germany and stamped with our name" all over it. The gentle smile, the slightly rounded tip, the 4072 stamp...I bet you have a Solingen in Japanese clothing there. Not at all a bad thing, it's sure to be a good shaver.

I don't think you wasted your money and agree with Jim that it should be a great shaver. Keep us posted please.

When I receive the Takehana Kummel, I will make a photo of the other side of the tine and post it. Also will let you know how it shaves.

I also have a razor marked Kummel. It also says silver steel under Kummel on the tang stamp. This razor is from Kikuboshi Razor Co. I wonder if Kummel is a way to describe the type of steel (silver steel) or the style or grind as the razor I have is similar to the one in your post. In any case this steel takes some work to get the edge but well worth the extra effort. I think you will enjoy it.

The Takehana Kummel arrived today. The back side of the tine is stamped "Kikuboshi Razor.s Co." and one side of the tail is stamped made in Japan, and lettering on one side of the scales says "made in Japan". The spine and tine are very thick compared to my solingen razors and the razor is quite heavy in comparison as well. Discolor was just some light oxidation on blade. I had a look at the edge and after a strop on .5 micron diamond paste and leather, whiskers just fall away. This razor is a keeper:-).......

I have seen other razor from Japan that tend to have spelling errors like that.
Still all were super nice shavers.
