Hi All!
Well the razor and hone are home in Japan! Owen presented the razor and hone to the deceased soldier's son on Iwo Jima March 19th 2014.
Here's a link to the article about the up coming event from my local paper. The article was published on the day that Owen presented the razor to the son. Owen's granddaughter found a video taken on Iwo after the event and sent it to Owen's wife who sent it to me and I sent it to the newspaper so the link is now included in their website.

I spoke with Owen in person this afternoon. He's still very tired but was so pleased with how things went. He said that they met before the ceremonies had started and when he presented the items to the son the look on his face made it well worth the journey! The son didn't cry but his eyes were watery.
The up coming event had been on the Japanese news stations the night before and Owen's translator said that the response was from over 10 million viewers.
Owen also said that the translator told him that Owen's gesture had probably improved the Japanese and American relationship more than the Ceremony honoring those who had died there did!
When we were finished talking I shook Owen's hand, told him how proud I was of what he started and finished and that he'd done good!
He gave a sheepish smile and said, well I tried.
He's trying to send pictures to me but is struggling so he's going to ask his son who accompanied him to help out.
If I get any pics I'll re-post!Last edited by onimaru55; 03-28-2014 at 02:54 AM. Reason: fixed link

Thanx for the update Roy. Tell Owen he's a "Legend"
btw, fixed the link. Wasn't showing the page for me.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Roy many thanks to you for bringing us in on this amazing story. There needs to be a special place in the great beyond for Owen. I am sure the Japanese Soldiers family will be honored as well for the return of something special that belonged to their soldier.
We could use many more Owen's in this world and several dozen more Roy's would not hurt either. Kindly thank Owen for his service to our country and for seeing that this final mission was completed so many years after that grueling war.
I am feeling very proud after reading this and am thankful it was shared with our family here on SRP.Bob

Thanked: 1184A very honorable cause and thanks for sharing. It's nice to hear of forgiveness and remembrance in such a way. Not enough of it in this world today :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Quite simply, this is my new favorite thread on SRP. The importance of this gesture to the family of the original owner is, I'm sure, significant. Tell Owen my family and I say Thanks for doing his bit.
