Thanked: 18Understood. He and I nerf sword fight all the time and it's fun as hell. My preference is the nerf battle axe as it's stiff enough for me to hook behind his ankle and pull him up (old and treachery yadda yadda). I don't want to get him a sharp sword. I do want to get him a SHARPENABLE sword.
I really like the link you sent, a lot, and will keep that in my back pocket. For him, I think he's looking more for the european long or bastard sword style.

I hear the Elves are great sword makers! From what I remember, he'll want a blade made from Mithril...

Dull swords still lop off appendages, just ask my 7 fingered customer who does civil war reenactments. Calvary sword totally took off 3 fingers as they passed by

That reminds me of a television show that had a sword expert on who demonstrated how sharp a katana was by slicing a bundle of straw of some sort. He then did the same with a dull European broadsword and explained how the refined edge had little to do with it's lethality.

I don't know the boy but I would have trouble trusting a 13 year old with a sword unless I was always present & otherwise it would be locked up.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
