Sharpening a ceramic knife?
I've got a couple Boker pocket knives that are ceramic. I need to get them sharpened. Has anyone here ever tried sharpening ceramic knives? Can it be done with Norton stones or is it best to just pay the money and ship it out to get it sharpened?

DMT!! Or the Chinese $8.95 two sided diamond hone on Ebay! Too uneven for razors but great for ceramic knives. Worked well on my HF ceramics and they cut fine!

Diamond is the only thing that will sharpen a ceramic knife.

Only with diamond.....you'll wear out your stones before a ceramic knife is sharpened. Diamond plates will do the trick.
But it's still not easy. Sharpening ceramic is quite the task because of the brittleness of the edge. As long as you don't go for shaving sharp it can be done. Anything over paper cutting sharp will be difficult and not very practical with a ceramic knife.

Thanked: 44They sharpen with no problems on the DMT diamond bench stones. My ceramic knife is now dead (i dropped it on a tile floor) and i cant see me ever buying another one, just too delicate for my clumsiness and i don't think they offer anything that a good steel knife doesn't offer.
Its already been said but don't try and put a steep angle on the bevel it will just chip when you use it
