Winchester pocket knives

Hi all,
I just bought a winchester pocket knife, it is brand new. What is your opinion of their products?

The old ones wee good steel as were their razors made by reputable manufacturers. Some are now Asian knock offs.
Do a search for Winchester knives and there are a lot of collectors out there.

Even if its a newer one, it should be O.K. for average day to day use.

The big one is a cheap and nasty locking knife that is good for anything that requires no real finesse.
2 x gerber locking knives i bought the black one to replace the silver one because i didnt like the serrated blade section and the fact that the lock is on the blade side. I had bought the silver one to replace one that got confiscated (long story) and I thought the black one was the same as that but no, it also has the lock on the blade side.
The wooden handled one is the winchester.
A buck and victorinox swiss army style knife.
I also have an opinel 12 in the shed somewhere, I had an 8 as well but gave that to a friend.
I think i had a few other ones in the past but they are long gone.

I am not sure how clear it is but the lock is the section of the handle with the split in it it is basically sprung so that it bends in under the blade when it is open.

The lock on that knife is known as a liner lock.

I'd say your Winchester is styled after the design popularized by Buck knives some 50 years ago. Does it have a country of origin stamping on the tang ? Here is a sure enough example of a classic Winchester from the golden days of that knife co. A model 1920.

No it doesn't Jimmy, and the packaging is in the bin. The bloke in the shop said he had owned one for a number of years and it has been good, we shall see. I generally abuse these little folders anyway so for $13 AUS on markdown i probably dont need to worry too much ☺.

The linerlock design is pretty poor really, it can get knocked in use (probably very unlikely) and your hand is in the danger zone of the blade when releasing it.

Ed I never have liked liner locks. It is surprising how many high end knives have then nowadays.

They seem like a cheap solution but not good cheap, cheap and nasty cheap.

If i were to get these knives really sharp i would fear for my fingertips i think
