Here, that's a one way ticket to a criminal record if you were caught with that, pretty sure most places as well.

Guess it would be legal to own one I think, as a historical artifact, but you probably couldn't carry that in most places, assume you couldn't carry that in the USA either?
Only knife off the top of my head that's illegal here is a switch blade. I still haven't worked out just why they've made those illegal...

But, a while back I wrote the local district attorney. You can own and carry any size/style knife (or sword) you like. But you best not have it concealed in any way shape or form. I think they make an exception for small pocket knives with folding blades because just about everyone here has one. I've carried some sort of pocket knife since I was 8.

I like the Fairbairn/Sykes style knives. Not quite as much as I like a bowie, but they're pretty solid blades.

I carry a benchmade automatic (switchblade) frequently. Only thing better than a red state, an orange state !

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    .
They became outlawed/banned long before you & I were born. At a time when automatic(switch blades) were not the normal everyday knife of carry. When a small segment of our population brought negative attention to them.
Introduce something different to the population in a negative, often violent manner & you get a law to regulate it or ban it.

Legislators like to make laws, very few like to remove them.

Yeah, my loose understanding is they were the knife of choice for gangs back in the day. Which led to them being outlawed in spite of the face that one could just as easily conceal a fixed blade of similar blade length and have it just as ready just as quick.

Legislators are silly creatures sometimes. Especially when you take into consideration that half of those black states also allow concealed carry of pistols, which are arguably more lethal than any switchblade I've laid eyes on.

It sure would be nice to find legislators that are willing to remove laws. The books could use a little clean up.

I live in one of those black states where they're not really allowed. So no, no I have not. My right to inadvertently shank myself is being infringed by big brother.

Good one. Thanks, I had forgotten my MK I (from early 70s).

My main carry for backpacking/trekking and camping/hunting & fishing, of which I haven’t done in a while. After scuffing the anodized finish and then breaking point off, I personalized mine. The point is stronger with more backbone. Loose carry/not clipped, you can, with a flick of the wrist send the sheath flying.
