Oh they are. I carry the E307X all the time. ((I do mean all the time)) And it has saved me many many a time. Simple and easy to use.

Well, I got the Ferber clutch, and I must say that it's the best mini multi tool I've seen. The tools are all locking and the pliers have springs. My only two gripes are that the file is a joke and it lacks a real philips screw driver. Otherwise, it was $15 well spent.

I use a Victorinox Cyber-tool - the Swiss Army knife for computer geeks. It has all the bits, etc. to assemble-disassemble a PC.

For what it's worth, when I need solid tools, I go to Sears and buy Craftsman. I looked for a multi-tool at Sears.com - they sell Victorinox!

I got the Leatherman Charge TTi for my Birthday recently.

    I love it to death.

It feels solid, well built and the tools are of quite high quality.

The straight knife is S30V (a GOOD steel) and I even love the flattened bits that Leatherman uses. I don't think I'll ever buy another multitool.

It was reasonably expensive but not more so than a medium range pocketknife. (€90, I got it through someone I know on a forum...in the store it's €160 but even then a good Spyderco knife will cost about the same)

I feel it'll keep me going for YEARS....and after it dies I might even replace it with another leatherman....but since it's a 25year guarantee I don't think that'll happen soon.

Mind you I've heard good stuff about the VIC tools as well...and their warranty can't be beat (lifetime last I heard).

But the leatherman feels and looks like what I want it to be, a rock solid pockettool.

Yeah, I haven't been too impressed with the Leatherman. I bought mine in a package at Costco. It came with a Lighter and a pair of binoculars. I thought it would be a nice set to keep in the glove-box ("Be Prepared") I was using the Multitool to fix the binocs within about a week, and that's about how long the lighter lasted, too. So much for the Chinese made "Leatherman" branded extras. The tool itself wasn't so hot either. The Phillips head on there seems to be neither a #1 nor #2, but something in between. I'd rather have both than neither, which is what that "compromise" ends up as.

I'll allow that I've used it in a pinch, and it's better than nothing, but that's about all it is better than, if you know what I mean.

From what I understand it depends on the model you have as well. Some of their lower and models I've read a lot of complaints about. But just about everyone loves their: Wave, Surge, Charge and lately their Sketetool models.

Some of the cheapers ones seem to be just that....cheaper.

    +1 LX Emergency

I have a Charge Ti which I love & use every day. The only reason I replaced my Wave was that my ex "lost it". Ya right

The only improvement possible would be the addition of a corkscrew. The blades are sharp & open & close one handed. With a little practice, you can open the interior tools one handed too

I got a 'Charge' off my better half for Christmas a couple of years ago. It was just a wrappy up, something extra to my main present, but it has been used daily ever since. I find it to be awesome!
