ok bruno no need to get insulting! the wife asked for my Gerber to pry open the air conditioning vents the other night and I was glad to hand her that cutter instead. I didn't say it was all I carry just handy.

I'am a balisong (butterfly knife) nut. And I think someone mentioned earlier that butterfly knives are not practical... ouch that hurt!! lol.

The spyderfly is too big of a knife to carry anyway, but a good flipper.

I personally carry the Benchmade Morpho. Outstanding knife.

That's a nice looking knife. My wife used to carry a butterfly knife when she was in school (the things I'm learning about that woman...!) but I've only owned one or two cheap ones to "play" with.

When I am at work their are two items always hanging on my belt, my Gerber Covert Combat Folder and my Leatherman Wave. The folder was designed and made with the assistance of Bill Harsey who, IMHO, is one of if not THE best knife maker today. It is made of very strong steel making it difficult to sharpen but equally difficult to dull. My Leatherman is my general "any goes" or "go to" tool. It has never let me down.
When not in uniform I have a small Boker three blade stockman that is about 2 inches long. Big enough for small jobs, cutting rope, breaking down boxes, etc but small enough not to be obtrusive. I don't even walk around my house without a pocket knife, but I am a little strange.

Funny you mentioned the Gerber covert (AKA Applegate-Fairbairn Covert). It is indeed a great little knife. Years ago I used to carry the full-size version, and snatched up one of the first production run models of the covert when it came out (Rex Applegate was still alive...been awhile ago). Wonderful knife that I prized. It was stolen. Thankfully I commute to the base now, and don't live in the barracks where things have to be stored with easy access for types soon to be kicked out....

I think I might buy another one. They're a really good knife for the money and don't take much space.

I know the feeling.
2 days ago I made my wife a seafood salad while we were chatting in the kitchen, using Japanese Kai Shun knife to do the cutting.

I put the knife down to do the washing up, and from the corner of my eye I see her take the knife in one hand and some plastic packaging in the other.
I grab her wrist with a look on my face that was pretty much

I stand there, holding her wrist, looking at her...
And she says 'What? I can't use that knife to open this thing?'

At the moment I'm a big fan of my Byrd Cara cara.

It was cheap, holds an edge like the devil and feels excellent in my hand. Plus it's just within the legal limits here in the NL.

I'd like a nicer one...but on the other hand this knife is excellent...and I'm not too worried about thrashing it. (Which I haven't so far but you never know what happends.)
