I'm not sure they are at all special really, just a small part of japanese culture that has not gained international popularity. The French have Opinels and Douk-Douk's, the Germans have the Mercator and the japanese have the Higonokami. I'm sure there are many others.Quote:

Makes perfect sense ..... a person carrying a locking blade might go completely crazy and start cutting throats ..... no danger of that if the blade doesn't lock. Glad someone has the foresight to pass such legislation. :wQuote:

We can still own some brilliant knives and I would love to see more people carrying them. Just simple single blade slipjoints. £10 and it would serve them for a life time.
Yeah, and a non locking blade is much safer for the user. :rant:
