    Weird...I had no idea these were at all special. I just went to the hardware store and bought the cheapest knife they had. I guess it's not a "real" higonokami, but it does take an easy, durable edge.

    I'm not sure they are at all special really, just a small part of japanese culture that has not gained international popularity. The French have Opinels and Douk-Douk's, the Germans have the Mercator and the japanese have the Higonokami. I'm sure there are many others.

    All great cheap pocket knives.

    Yeah, and a non locking blade is much safer for the user.
