The only stipulation SWMBO has put on me is try to keep it under 50 bucks per knife. The only other consideration I have is in Michigan it is technically illegal to carry any type of A/O or other knife with any type of assist unless you are one armed.

I have read through the EDC thread and the knife collectors threads but just wondering what people would think of a decent pocket knife I can get or are there a few to choose from so I can better match the knife to the person?
    Troggie,

Either Boker, Buck, Case or Schrade pocket knives would be excellent choices, imho. I have purchased both the Buck and Case knives online for my own use. They can be obtained at the following online store:

Got me a NOS Old Timer Schrade USA improved muskrat. A fine pocket knife.

I have a vintage but NOS hen and Rooster and it's very high quality knife. Benchmade makes some very nice knives.

I carry either a Case 22087 SS or a Camillus Knives, CM-27B Dura-Tool Electrician in black. Both are excellent knives for around $30 each. I got my Camillus from when I was a mechanic in the Army in the early '90s.

My two favorites are the Victorinox Farmer, closely followed by the Soldier (the old version, not the new issue).

I have two Old Timer knives that I love, The three bladed Stockman and the large lock blade Bear Claw. Both are pre-chinese takeover. I wouldn't bother with the chinese stuff although it is probably just fine. I like knives made in the country of origin and with either a good firm spring that minimise the chance of the blade closing on my fingers if I do something stupid, or a lock blade.
Perhaps Case, Buck or Schrade might be options. I've never concerned myself with legality. I use knives as a tool for the job at hand and pick the one that I think will most likely suit the purpose. EDC I carry the Stockman, a Leatherman and a CRKT M16-03Z (one handed opening. No mechanical assist).

I'd say match the knife to the person. Some people really enjoy the tactical style. (Spyderco, Byrd, Kershaw can be found for easily in that range)

Other prefer a more traditional approach. (for those I'd say Queen (if you're in the US), Case, or on the very cheap end of the scale look for some Rough Rider knives. They're very decent for the price and will make many a non-knife type person happy.)

Not everyone has the same taste. I got my wife a nice slipjoint with abalone....and she never used it. Then I got her a Spyderco tatoo Dragonfly and she loves it. Doesn't carry it all the time. But at least enough that I think it was worth the money.

I'd have to agree, but I go with the equivilent uncle henry 897. Problem is they arent made in the us anymore. But you can get them in good shape off ebay for far less than 50$, I bought 5 when I found out they werent making them in the us anymore.
