+1 on the Kershaw Leek. I use one as a money clip for small blls (except for when I'm flying).

Some places may be trying to ban assisted-openers (and some cops seem to think they're already illegal), but AFAIK they're still OK in CA for now and they're usually on the front lines of this kind of nonsense.

I really like my Kershaw Leek but cannot say the same for a recently purchased Kershaw Chive. Is the speed safe mechanism in the Chive inherently weaker than the Leek or did I just get a lemon? When I flick it open, it only opens 3/4 of the way...I have to assist it the rest of the way.

sounds like a defective item, you should definitely exchange it for a new one if possible.

The two chives I've had (one got confiscated at the Statue of Liberty security check, guess nobody can pull an Atta on the Liberty/Ellis ferry boad....) were both purchased 5+ years ago, and the opening was quicker and made a much louder snap than the Leek I bought a few months ago - probably due to the shorter blade. Suppose it's possible that Kershaw has let the quality slide on their springs in the meantime, but it seems unlikely.

Default Check out gun shows for knives

Just a suggestion--I have found gun shows to be great places to see a lot of knives (and sometimes razors) of all types. There are also usually book dealers that have cool books on knives.

Thank you...I suspected it was defective. I emailed the store that I bought it from yesterday afternoon but so far have not heard back.
