Default Almost ready to start in Afghan.

Still waiting for my starter kit.

Dovo best quality full hollow 5/8 razor (Got it)
Shaving brushes, 1 boar hair, 1 badger hair (Waiting for it)
    Shaving soap (Waiting for it)
    Illinois 127 strop (Got it)
    Fromm strop dressing (Got it)
Norton 4000/8000 water stone (Got it)

I'm trying not to jump the gun. Haven't done my first shave yet. I have a beard to get rid of first. I practice my stropping technique, as I wait for the rest of my stuff to arrive. The mail is just real slow getting to Afghanistan.

Man, I would be jumping the gun and using whatever soap I had at hand to take that first lick with my new Dovo! You are showing some great restraint by just sitting around stropping your razor. By the time your soap gets there, that baby should be able to split a frog's hair. I hope the rest of your kit gets there soon and you can join the brotherhood of the straight razor. Thank you for your service Doc. God bless and come home safe.

    Regards - Walt

Welcome to SRP and to the joy of scraping as much dirt/dust off your face as you do stubble. While your waiting on your soap and brushes, depending on your location and living conditions, you may want to look at tuperware or a cover towel to keep the dust out of it all. I'm at KAF, and it's dustly but not horrible (yet) so I just keep a small towel draped over my kit. Seems to work pretty well, but we'll see how it keeps for the next 8 months... On a good note, with it being so dry over here, rust has not been a problem at all.

Just use that carcinegenic bug juice they used to issue.. That stuff was slicker then owl sh**. The cancer effects don't kick in for a good twenty or thirty years... Makes you lips numb too, if I remember correctly, so be careful on the upper lip shave.

Thanks for the tip. Salerno has gone "Expeditionary", so I guess I'll have to wait till I get to BAF to try it.
