Thanked: 0New from Napa
Good afternoon all! My love for folding knives finally bled over to shaving. After spending far too much money collecting Kershaws and Spydercos, I realized I was wasting tons of money on disposable blades. That led me here. I was at Target getting Mach 3 refills and finally had enough. It was twenty something dollars! Eff that!
Did a ton of research and decided as a beginner I wanted a kit already put together because the options out there were overwhelming me. I ended up purchasing a Dovo starter set from Classic Edge way up in Canada. Nothing but nice things to say about Jane. Plenty of emails letting me know where the order is at etc. Can't wait to receive it. Since placing the order I've been doing more reading and research on soaps, creams, brushes, and custom straights! What a fun new world! I only regret that after about 20 years of disposables, I'm only finally catching the straight bug. Stupid Gillette! They'll never see a dime from me again! Muahahaha.

Hi crya - it's really nice way up here in Canada!
Jane is great, that's where I got my starter kit many moons ago, The Classic Edge, Phil hones them up very nicely and the starter kit was great. I've still got the russian strop in great condition. Have bought a few other razors there (2 Thiers Izzard) and assorted stuff and they are beautiful razors, Phil really takes his time.
BTW, I really love the DOVO 5/8 razor, great way to start and to learn maintenance, just remember, you've got to keep them dry! If you're going to apply oil, really make sure it's dry so you don't trap water between the oil and blade. I had to send mine back because I didn't keep it dry enough and it got some stains. Long story, it's on a thread here, but I really effed up the razor with different chemicals trying to clean it. Now I know, as little water as possible, and dry, dry, dry!
Just sent three razors to him that I got at a yard sale for honing and a polish - really reputable place, and for me, they're in Country so shipping is excellent.
Depending on where you are, I understand Lynn, who is the owner of this site and also sells quality shaving products, has some great selection and services as well.
Also, don't forget to check out the members classified section where you can buy, sell and trade razors etc., and also find members who provide services, such as honing.
Enjoy!Last edited by Phrank; 08-09-2013 at 05:25 AM.
