Default New kid on the block

    Hi guys,

    Just a quick introduction....

My name is Matt, I'm 32. I've been traditionally wet shaving for 9 months, before that I shaved with electric and multi-blade cartridge razors. I've been DE shaving since I stepped into wet shaving, however over the past month or two I've started straight razor shaving.

    Straight razor shaving seemed like a natural progression since, the improvements that were quoted from DE shaving vs cartridge razors were bang on the money, and the talk of benefits of straight razor shaving seem right up my street;
+Sense of accomplishment with learning a fantastic skill,
    +an even more personalised shave,
    +a more zen-like shave session,
+honouring a tradition that dates back thousands of years... <- did I miss any SR vs DE benefits?

Over the past month or two I've bought 4 straight razors but I'm currently only shaving with one since I'm only a dozen straight shaves in (+ a dozen shavette shaves) and I'm looking to fix my setup and focus on my technique.

I'm currently struggling with my chin, the hairs seem very tough and the angles are constantly changing.

I'm also struggling with making the slick lather that goes well with SR shaving, compared to thick protective, yoghurt-like lather that has served me well with DE shaving.

^these will be my first few searches here on SRP.

    Thanks guys,

    Matt

Welcome to the most friendly, helpful and informative site on the web!!

You will find members here of all different backgrounds, ages and occupations from all corners of the world and all with a quest for more knowledge about using and maintaining a straight razor!

If your straights only have the factory edge, they are lacking. However while I've never used the Shavett it should be plenty sharp.

It does take time, patience is mandatory!

Keeps up up to date on the progress!

    Again,

    Welcome

    Welcome to the 'Place'

Chin is the challenge but a low angle, well honed blade , good lather & stretching the skin will all help.
