    Thumbs up Greetings from Colorado

    hello everyone!

I am a junior at CU Boulder. I took up straight razor shaving as a hobby that I want to practice and "hone." I had my first straight razor shave today (8/27/2013), and it was very empowering! But throughout the time I was wondering about all the potential things I was doing wrong. I look forward to indulging in the wisdom of the seasoned members here. In time, I hope to become one myself

    With much gratitude,

    Ben (zengardenz)

Hello Ben and welcome. All three of my children attended CU Boulder. You have found a great resource. If I may I would suggest you spend some time here: Beginner's guide to straight razor shaving - Straight Razor Place Wiki

I don't know the significance of your user name but I will tell you that many of us are drawn to the meditative aspects of this hobby.

The "My Time" aspects of our hobby cannot be overstated. Rather than in a rush to get out the door, wet SR shaving relaxes the person and allows contemplation on life. We look forward to our time in front of a mirror.

Welcome to the forum. Read/view all that is available and take it slow.

    Welcome to the forum Ben.

I am curious. I have heard that wet shaving is increasing among college students but have not actually talked to someone in college about shaving. What is your perspective? Do you see an increase in wet shaving among your cohort?

So far, I am the only one i know that uses a straight razor. I think that it may be hard to gain momentum among other college kids partly because individuals my age generally lack the patience and diligence to make the extra time (let alone cook their own meal or do their own laundry) But I think that it is definitely looked up upon among many college students.
