Default Nice to Meet You All

    Hi All,

A buddy at work was talking to me about shaving with a straight razor. I'll admit, I use a disposable 3-blade, but the thought of shaving with a straight razor has intrigued me for a long time now. I'm ready to get started, and hopefully I won't look like I've crawled through a field of barbed wire when I'm done!

    Have a good one everyone!

Welcome to SRP Juno. I'm sure you will enjoy your journey. SRP has a wealth of information right on the site but if you don't find an answer to a particular problem ask away in here. The members have a ton of information themselves and experience too boot.

Welcome Juno. Enjoy the ride and the companionship to be found in these posts. This is the biggest group of guys I have even known that are both curious about everything and ask, ask, ask till they get a good answer and are willing in turn to answer as many times as needed. We are a group of every thing from people that just want a good shave to deep practitioners of the mystic with understandings of the very atoms of the metal we cherish. Bring your questions and sense of humor to the game!.

Hey Juno - welcome aboard. You've really hit the mother load of info & help.

The gents tell you right about boning up on the beginning topics in the Wiki. It can save you from alot of the 'barbed wire' facials. (There's a reason I'm called pinklather). Its pretty common to get overwhelmed by all the detailed topics here. When contemplating a launch into straight shaving - there's really only 3 things that matter. The shave (technique) itself, Beard Prep/making lather, and stropping.

The shave itself is linked on the home page & would be hard to improve upon.

    Stropping:

The stropping thread is worth spending some time on. Or maybe its just that I was lousy at it. I destroyed 5 strops.

'Wish we had pictures of the look on our faces when we took our first strokes w/ the straight. 1/2 terror, 1/2 amazement that anything that sharp could feel so smooth on the face. From there, its not much time before you're getting the best shaves of your life. Enjoy the learning. You'll be very well supported here.
