Default Hi, from Chino Hills, CA. WBRicex

Hello all. Hoping to find some good info on SR shaving. So far, so good. But, I do have one question, What is the difference between sharpening and honing?
    Thanks,

Hi, and Welcome to the forum. Glad you signed up.

Well, honing and sharpening should mean the same thing, and usually do. However, in some cases honing is just using a hone to try to sharpen a razor, but because of bad technique, or bad steel on cheap razors, or other damage to a razor, etc. it just turns out to be honing with little or no sharpening.

With the hone in the hands of an experienced razor honer, they are generally synonymous.

Lots of good threads here on honing, just use the search function at the top right of the page, and also look through the Library linked at the top of the page. Also a couple of good links below in my sig line.

Lots of help here from the members, so ask away when in doubt.

    Enjoy!! And again, Welcome!!

    Best Regards,

    Howard

Welcome WBRicex. The mentor nailed it. I would have just said nothing. If it's not shaving it's not sharp and needs a hone. :<0)
I am not to far from you.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
