    Default Hello from Central Massachusetts

Hello to all from Central Massachusetts. I have been shaving with my grandfathers Gillette DE for about over a year. It was made the same year as me, 1954! I feel very lucky to have it.

A while ago I found this website and emailed cudarunner with some questions about straight razors. He was very informative and helpful. I have an old A.Whitte Baby Gold Bug that I bought that was supposed to be shave ready. I tried shaving with it and the way it pulled I knew right off the bat it needed honing. Roy got me hooked up with gssixgun to have my SR professionally honed. So, after emailing Glen back and forth a few times I sent the Gold Bug out to him across the country. In just a matter of days he got it, evaluated it and put it back into shave ready condition. The scales were not the original and didn’t fit so he highly suggested that I have him replace them with something proper. My Baby Gold Bug is a square point and I told him of my concern of getting nicked. He muted the point for me. I told Glen that I would like to get a nice round point to learn with. Well, lo and behold, he found a Gold Bug with a round point!!! I don’t know who was more excited, Glen or me! He then honed it and got it shave ready also.

I got the razors back yesterday and this morning I had my first shave with the round point. I prepped the suggested way and shaved my right cheek. I was blown away that with no effort and no pulling, the razor just glided down my cheek. I shaved my left cheek and same thing. I was gonna stop right there and finish with the DE, but it felt so natural and comfortable I continued with my neck. No nicks or scratches, just a darn close shave only going WTG. I did finish the chin and lip with the DE. What a difference a properly honed razor makes. Gentlemen, I am hooked! Thank you Roy for all your help and a big thank you Glen for your kindness and expertise.

It’s truly been my pleasure to meet you and help you meet someone who in my book is one of the most helpful, giving and informative people I’ve ever met! I’m very proud to call him my friend! I’m humbled when he in turn calls me his!

Though this wonderful Gentleman’s site I’ve made friends and good friends at that as far away as the UK and the land down under/Australia, let alone a very, very good friend not far from me in Oregon!

    Welcome again! Enjoy the Ride!

    Sanfte Rasur, mein Klingenbruder!

I new you'd like it, Jack. 'Wish I had a snapshot of your face during the first stroke. 'Still amazes me how something that wicked sharp could be so smooth against the skin. You worked w/ good guys that know their stuff - and as usual - your face is thanking you.

    Enjoy alot.
