Thanked: 14Signing in from the land of beer and lederhosen
Evening all,
I found this site a couple months ago while looking for info on str8 shaving.
I've been wanting to try shaving with a straight for some years now, but never ponied up and took the plunge.
So as I'm sure a few of you know, an alcohol-induced hazy evening on the computer turned into a couple packages arriving at my doorstep a couple days later.
After aquiring a few other needed utensils, Ive now had a half dozen shaves, have only nicked myself twice notably, though really not very bad at all, re-scaled one of my razors and polished it while I was at it, honed all 3 of em up to nice, sharp, smooth shavers, found a classy, suitable container for my new friends, and have definitely become infected with the bug.
I really like reading all the threads here, and though I'm bit of a lurker, I'm sure as I gain more experience, I'll be posting a bit more.
Until then, cheers, I'm off to find a beer, but before I go, enjoy a few pics.

Looks like you're off to a great start. BTW, how did the blade jig work out? I'm making one this weekend.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Thanked: 14I made the jig lightly longer than the Tückman blade, used 4x1cm neodynium magnets, epoxied them in, and then covered the whole thing in felt to not scratch stuff....
at times depending on how I had the blade on there, the 4 magnets seemed a bit overkill, but other times not really at all. I also drilled the middle 2 magnets a bit further towards the middle of the blade away from the spine a shade... worked a treat!

Thanked: 1Heh. Something tells me that there's probably a substantial overlap between guys who shave with straight razors, and guys who have empty cigar boxes and the like laying around their houses. Just a guess. I use an empty tube from a Rocky Patel Decade toro as a container for one of my razors that doesn't have a box.
