    Default Blood free in California

I think maybe I neglected to do the introduction and jumped right into posting. So, engineering academic type with right brain tendencies and a relentless need to understand the "why" and not just the "how". As likely comes across in my posts.

Years and years (and years) of electrics and multiblades. Months of DE. And finally, proud owner of a Ralf Aust blade (bought from SRD, my new place for all things shave related) and a "needs honing" McDonald from San Francisco (via eBay). Newly empowered with a set of naniwa stones and a DST 325 (from SRD, natch) and happily sharpening up various knives as a warmup to that McDonald. Which is being used at the moment as a safe practice razor (with tape on the edge). I've already "cut" myself twice while shadow shaving with it. Makes me that much more aware of the real thing.

First shave went down today and no glitches. Tomorrow ... the neck!

    Crowden

PS - I can see why there's a collection bug. I'm already feeling it.

Only two so far. Thats not a case of RAD. I joined in July and I'm pushing 17 razors. Finally reduced Rad to rad because for some reason I want a 14 day rotation set to learn with for the next year so I can slowly decide what size razor(s) i really prefer. I'm liking both sides of 4/8's with a couple forays into two 5/8. But you are more adventurous than I am in wanting to hone your own. My mentor is doing mine for the experience and I need him to show me how to do the occasional touch up between hones. Am now working on my soap RAD, nine so far of soaps and creams. Like them all and are very subjective about which to use each morning.

Good luck with the honing and shave safely!

I figure with incipient RADing it'll be cheaper to know how to hone myself. And with a Lynn (or trained by Lynn) honed blade to start with I have a set point for "this is good".
And it's just two BUT both arrived the same day. Two a day could get dubious! I'm surprised there are so many old razors floating around. But happy there are!

PS - I've only got three cremes, two soaps (and two cans of forlorn Barbisol in the closet).

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Forgot to mention that I have restrained RAD on scuttles, etc. A bowl from Goodwill for 1.99, a Georgetown G20 for a lot of money and a handmade one by a granddaughter, plus a small coffee cup warmer to put the scuttles on for warm lather all the way through three passes. Holding the line on three brushes, a VDH that I like and two horsehair brushes from Turkey that are interesting. Three different sizes to see what i really like and then pass what i don't want on to a buddy. No face lathering for me, get my goatee to messy.
