Hey guys. I just registered after being a long time lurker and finally purchasing my first straight razor; a Dovo Best Quality 5/8 half hollow. I'm sure I'll upgrade in the future but for now i think that'll hold me over well. Thanks for all the helpful info this site had provided!
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

    Welcome to SRP!

Yes, that razor will shave you splendidly if properly honed and stropped.
    No worries at all.

    Good luck with your journey

Will do. My razor is on its way to me now from RoyalShave and I'll probably give it a go monday or so if it arrives by then. Hopefully I can pull it off without an initial stropping. Im upgrading from a Merkur safety razor that I've been using for the past few years so hopefully the transition will go smoothly for me. Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Howdy! DE is different from SE but there's enough similarity to help the transition; i.e. angle of attack is muy importante. The difference is that with a DE you can only slice "so" deep whereas with a SE ...

You'll be a lot more alert when using the DE!

This is probably the dumbest question to ask but what does DE and SE stand for? I get what they are from your description but what are they abbreviations of?
