    Default Hello everyone

Ok so I have been a wet shaver for a long time, safety razors only and I'm getting ready to take on the straight. Was watching a YouTube online from shave nation and I got to tell you he makes shaving with a straight razor look so simple. I do not own a straight razor yet and was wondering if using a replaceable blade straight would be a good starter? My thoughts are that this would take all the blade sharp / strop out of questioning good or bad? Also they are a tad cheaper that a true straight razor.

    Welcome to SRP!
The replaceable blade straights ("shavettes") are a path many have taken. they do eliminate the honing and the stropping issues and allowing you to focus on technique. Since you already are a DE users this may be a good step due to it's low cost factor.
That said a shavette is not a straight and although similar the technique the shave will be different, the shavette is not as forgiving as a straight when it comes to shave angles and comfort. that is just part of the compromise.

    enjoy,

I think it's a good idea to start out with a shavette, especially if you are more curious than dedicated. If you find you don't enjoy the straight razor approach to shaving, then you are not out the cost of a straight razor, strop, etc. But, if you find the experience suits you, you have another level of satisfaction awaiting you when step up to a standard straight razor. Good luck!

    Regards - Walt
