Default Maybe a Dumb Question about Vintage Razors

I'm very new to shaving with a straight, but I'm already thinking about how nice it might be to shave with an old time, vintage razor. While reading through some old posts, though, I saw a comment that funeral homes use straight razors, and then sell them on the used razor market. REALLY? Can any confirm whether this is true? If it is, I'll be staying with new razors. Thanks in advance, and I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.

I am not sure why they would sell them, if they use them then they would continue to use them.

    Welcome to the hobby!

I don't know how much truth there is to this, and as stated above why would they use them and then sell them in the Internet? Just to buy new old ones and then sell them again? Sounds like a bunch of bull to me....

Either way if our 100+year old razors could talk I'm sure we'd hear all sorts of crazy, crazy, crazy stuff.....

I mean seriously, the turn of last century a razor was also a common murder weapon... Most of those people didn't even get caught, the there's always a possibility your W&B wedge got pay back for an unpaid debt, and the old ERN next to shaved cadavers...

I don't really think about it... They're mine now... That's what matters.

Nooo, not my precious ERNs... now you take that back!

I'm sure some would tell you stories of joy and sadness, shaving before a battle and before a marriage, some even of true horror.
I've got an old one with a ring as a tang, some say it was for fighting but it's retired now!

I don't know about being used for shaving cadavers but many of my razors were owned by guys who are dead now. Someday, after I'm 'gone,' someone else will be shaving with mine ..... same with yours.

I think Magpie has the only known haunted razor. And from what I understand he is willing to part with it. That was an understatement !

    E-bay title:

CURSED HAUNTED Civil War Straight Razor Wade and BUTCHER emphasis on BUTCHER

    “Cursed blade demands Blood Sacrafices!”

Apparently 16 witches or warlocks are in a bid war over it at this time !

I've been watching this one- I was curious how much extra some one is willing to pay to get cursed....

I was going to put some of these in my post but the poor guy cut himself pretty bad so I feel for him on that.
