Thanked: 2Many thanks to all above. I often go past the Jones mine/factory and have to say that, though muddy - take boots in wet weather - these guys are good craftsmen. I think I'll give the 3 inch a go (can get it on eBay). So fifteen quid (GBP or my foreign friend!) is probably worth a go and it comes with a slurry stone. I can't afford a flash Japanese job yet but, with luck, I'll never have to to get a decent shave.
BTW my vintage Kropp gave me a shave this morning that still feels smooth! As for balm - I use Imperialis from LUSH which is probably only available in the UK. If anyone in foreign climbs wants some - I will try to help. Feels gorgeous and so smooth! No nasty chemical either.
Must go, police are at the door! Another story for another time!

As everyone has said hold off on the hones for a bit. With three razors and some crox you shouldn't have to hone for quite some time if you use each equally. Yes I will say that you have rad and when it comes time to hone you will probably get "had" or hone acquisition disorder as well. I have the inigo jones dragons tongue hone and although it is cheap and a decent hone it is not a finisher. I have shaved using the dragons tongue as the finishing hone and it will shave finely but not like a coticule or my arkansas black. Any ways enjoy your new hobby. Great advice abounds.
Oh yeah the dragons tongue from AJ on ebay is different than the inigo jones dragons tongue. From what I have read the one from AJ is a bit finer but still probably in the 6 to 7k range again from what ive read I dont have the hones from aj but I rate my DT from inigo at about 6k.Last edited by cosperryan; 10-04-2013 at 12:12 AM.

Yep your infected. Don't read the threads you'll find razors, stones, strops, soaps , etc described as the best and get curious and soon you have 5 of everything and you'll still be searching for the elusive best ?
Its like the flu just when you get better you get it again. My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Do all three razors come shave-ready? Then I would suggest shaving with one or two for a time until they start to dull and leave the third as a reference for your honing. That makes it easier to compare your own honing skills to someone else's!
I want a lather whip
