Future Str8rzr Disciple.....Can't Wait!!
Hello All!!!
After purchasing another package of four safety razor cartridges....the ones with 5 blades.....for an obscene amount of money I decided it was time to look at alternatives. I've been lurking around SRP for a little while and decided to register today. SRP has been very helpful in my quest for information about the straight razor lifestyle!! As a result I have found myself up way past my normal bedtime doing "research" on this this growing cult/club, watching total strangers shave, strop and hone - sounds a little creepy!!! And by the look of some of the time stamps on forum posts, I see I'm not alone. I can't wait to join the cult..I mean club, but I also enjoy gaining new knowledge and looking at all the options. As I gain more knowledge and dive into this new found hobby (I never thought shaving could be a hobby!!) I'm sure I will make full use of this website. Thanks in Advance!!
I've been using a quality badger brush, boar brush, shaving soap, etc..for a long time...now its time to take the next big step!!
KIT (Keep It Taut),
Tim

Sounds like you are off to a good start. If you have been lurking a bit, you know you need a shave ready SR. Have you decided what you are going to get?
PS: Ask questions! There are a bunch of really knoweldgable and very kind folks here.... Sometimes they are even the same person .....j/k.The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Thanked: 5Welcome. Come on in the water is fine. Never mind that it's filled with shaving soap.
Just keep in mind that it is a new set of skills to learn along with a new set of equipment. It's going to be a while until you get a shave as close as a multi-blade disposable. Yet the process is much more rewarding, even if your first few shaves are sub-par.
Let us know what you are going to start out with.

Thanks for the warm welcome....I'm thinking about buying a straight razor gift set from "The Superior Shave" with a Boker' Edelweiss' 5/8" Full Hollow Ground SR. It seem like a good value. I really like the TSS website, another place with a lot of good info and items that are in stock! Plus I know that the razor will come "Shave Ready".....While I know I could get a much cheaper starter set from Whipped Dog, I decided I want a new SR. I haven't placed my order yet, (I enjoy the hunt) so I'm still open to suggestions.

Thanked: 5Boker is a good choice. I've got an antique boker that I adore. That's a nice starter blade you have chosen. Any time you buy a razor it should be something that you would be proud to own. Otherwise you end up with a junk razor or two.
Now all you need is a decent linen/leather strop and you are on your way. I can't really give you advice on a strop. I don't recall the brand on mine. My leather/linen was "upgraded" because what I ordered was out of stock. I seriously question the nylon part lately. My other strop is home made. But that is an entirely different story.

Hi and welcome. Sounds like your on the right path. Have a look ar SRD. They have sets and can vouch for the ralf aust razor. Shaves just as well as my vintage razors and seems well built and finished. I actually got a razor and strop set and upgraded it. Very reasonable price for the quality of the products. Razor will be shave ready and you get a second honing free.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
